What Type of Mobile Worker Rules Your Company?

A la revista CIO publiquen un interessant article sobre l’ús dels telèfons mòbils a l’empresa, i defineixen 4 tipus de treballadors mòbils, l’ús que fan dels telèfons mòbils (propis o d’empresa), les aplicacions que utilitzen i la seva relació amb l’àrea de TI.

A continuació, un extracte dels tipus de treballadors mòbils:

In a new report from Forrester entitled "The Rise of Wannabe and Maverick Mobile Workers" by analyst Michele Pelino, four different types of enterprise mobile workers are spotlighted. Here’s how they break down and what they mean for IT.

Mobile Information Workers

Profile: Mobile information workers are usually consultants, financial services professionals or banking execs who travel frequently, but must stay in touch with the office through e-mail and collaboration tools. They spend a lot of time outside the office analyzing information and interacting with partners and customers.

Mobile Task Workers

Profile: Task workers are usually delivery drivers, retail sales employees and field service employees who do not work at a desk. Their work consists of specific physical tasks and they frequently use mobile devices to do their jobs. Task workers are mostly found in the transportation, retail, healthcare and manufacturing industries.

Mobile Wannabes

Profile: This is the segment gaining the most momentum, according to Forrester. Mobile wannabe workers are in their mid-20s and work primarily at desk jobs in an office. They do not use company-sanctioned mobile devices or get mobile support from corporate IT. Examples of mobile wannabe roles include executive assistants, clerical personnel and customer service reps.

Mobile Mavericks

Profile: This is the smallest but fastest growing segment of mobile workers, according to Forrester. A mobile maverick is someone who selects and purchases his or her own mobile device for work-related activities. Most mavericks are male and often work outside the office traveling for business. They are usually in management roles such as a C-level executive, general manager or supervisor.

What Type of Mobile Worker Rules Your Company?

En certa manera, podríem lligar establir les següents relacions amb productes tecnològics:

• Mobile Information Workers: utilitzen la blackberry que ens ha donat l’empresa. Ningú ha hagut de convèncer als directius que els convenia dotar aquests treballadors un dispositiu per accedir almenys al correu electrònic.
• Mobile Task Workers: diferències per indústria molt rellevants:
• en un magatzem utilitzen pistoles que llegeixen codis de barres
• si fan enquestes per les cases, porten un portàtil connectat a Internet (aviat un tablet)
• els camions porten un GPS connectat al sistema central i els conductors comuniquen les comandes entregades amb una PDA
• els pèrits porten una càmera de fotografiar, i un portàtil per enviar les fotografies i emetre opinions i valoracions sobre el sinistre analitzat
• els excursionistes porten un aparell GPS amb mapes que permet enregistrar la ruta
• els ciclistes porten, com a mínim, un compta-quilòmetres a la bici
• Mobile Wannabes: utilitzen el seu telèfon mòbil iPhone o Android, i es barallen amb el Departament de Sistemes perquè els doni accés al correu electrònic i agenda de l’empresa, i cada vegada més a aplicacions de gestió.
• Mobile Mavericks: També han estat molt afectats per l’iPhone, però el salt qualitatiu ha vingut amb l’iPad o altres tablets. Ja no van a les reunions amb la llibreta i els documents en format arbres morts (el que abans anomenàvem paper).
• En aquest cas, més que barallar-se amb el Departament de Sistemes, sol·liciten (entenent per això: ordenen) tenir accés. No obstant, això sol derivar en què el Departament de Sistemes també doni accés als Mobile Wannabes.
